Rubik’s Rivalry

Rubik’s Rivalry

Troy Niese: “For the record, I had the slow, rusty cube.”

When recently asked to share a hidden talent, both Troy Niese and Jack “Clem” Poeppelman gave the same answer: they can solve a Rubik’s Cube faster than the other.

The responses revealed one of the fiercest rivalries in Choice One history. At least since the parking lot footrace of ’25. Naturally, a showdown was the only reasonable solution. Although Troy completed his puzzle first, concerns about cube rust, tampering, and sabotage quickly cast doubt on the victory.

Thankfully, a rematch may not be necessary. While Troy and Clem were debating, Wes Wolters revealed he, too, has a hidden talent for solving Rubik’s Cubes, including variations most of us have never even heard of. We suspect Troy and Clem may have been competing for second place all along.
