Aaron Plas
Field Surveyor
Aaron is from Fort Loramie, OH, and attended Fort Loramie HS. He graduated from Sinclair in 2019 with a degree in Construction Mgt. He also attended the Upper Valley Career Center where he studied Engineering & Mechanical Design.
Aaron is an avid sports fan. He likes watching football and baseball, being outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and sharing experiences with the people around him.
Adam Gill joined the Choice One team as a project engineer in 2019. Adam is a Beavercreek native where he attended Beavercreek High School. He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Adam and his fiancé, Meghan, plan to marry in 2021. Adam enjoys golfing and spending time with family & friends. And we're pretty sure he likes dogs, too!
Allan joined Choice One in 2013. As a project manager specializing in street lighting and traffic signals, he has helped communities large and small with roadway, intersection, and traffic engineering. When he’s not counting cars and figuring lumens, Allan spends his time with wife Lauren, daughter Faye, and son Kip. Together they enjoy rooting for the OSU Buckeyes, Cincinnati Reds, and Cleveland Browns. Allan also enjoys the outdoors and working on projects around his home in Minster. If every holiday could be Thanksgiving, Allan would not complain—Thanksgiving to him means good food and lots of naps.
Since 2004, Allen Bertke has been addicted to green shirts. As one of our professional surveyors he works hard to ensure the survey crews and projects run as smoothly and efficiently as possible--all while maintaining a great customer experience. This keeps Allen busy! If Allen is not busy enough at work, he is always busy at home. Allen is married to Melissa, and together they have four children, Andrew, Lucas, Mallory and Andrea, all born within five years. When he has leisure time (rarely!) he enjoys camping, fishing, playing baseball, and working on his home to avoid paying someone else to do the work. He has even been known to collect aluminum cans while out and about surveying. After figuring out how many cans equal a pound (P.S. it is 31 cans), and by keeping tabs on the going scrap rate, he would tabulate how much of a “raise” he earned that hour of surveying.
Since graduating from Ohio University in 2000, Andy Shuman has been a project manager at Choice One Engineering. Just as our Choice One family has grown since then, so has Andy’s! His five sons keep him busy outside of the office with soccer, hockey, and band. Andy also keeps busy by running the Shuman family farm in Troy where he resides. Andy has a true passion for helping clients solve problems to make their lives easier, and his common sense and logical mind (well, as logical as a farmer can be!) help him do so. His specialties are sanitary sewer systems and water systems.
Brad Walterbusch graduated from the University of Toledo in December of 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, and joined our Choice One team shortly after. Brad is the youngest of three siblings, and hails from Minster. Outside of work, Brad enjoys walking/hiking, relaxing on the lake, and swimming. Brad and his wife, Claire, currently reside in Russia.
Brad Warnock is a project engineer out of our Sidney location. Brad is from Jeffersonville, OH, and attended Miami Trace High School. He graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Brad enjoys football, basketball and baseball. His favorite teams include the Bengals, Reds and Ohio State. In his spare time, Brad likes to work out, hang out with friends and values time spent with family. He also likes to listen to Country music.
Finding joy in seeing a project come to life off a paper design is what excites designer Brian Barhorst. Often, as he is driving with his wife Chris and kids Carly, Danielle, Bryce, and Lily, Brian has been known to take “minor” detours to visit a project the Choice One team has designed. This gives Brian a chance to see how construction is going and how well the project was designed, or if there are minor modifications to make on the next project for the betterment of our clients’ communities. Thankfully his family has stopped being annoyed by the frequent stops. However, his daughter does like to pick on him when driving down Interstate 75 through the Dayton area. She keeps asking when Choice One is going to fix the road at mile marker 58 where apparently they “NEEDMORE ROAD.” Some day we will….
Brian is a designer at Choice One, and has been at Choice One longer than a few of our employees have been alive. Brian uses his 24+ years of experience designing clients’ projects to help make their lives and projects as enjoyable as possible. When Brian isn’t answering clients’ needs, you might find him discussing baseball, football, or his kids sporting events. Brian enjoys spending time with his wife Jenny, sons Cole and Toby, and daughter Jaci at their sporting events, every day adventures, and even the occasional trip to the emergency room for yet another broken arm…
Originally from the “Shire” (Yorkshire, Ohio), Brian now resides as a Cincinnati West-sider with his “Precious,” wife Marielle, and three little hobbits: Caden, Maddalena, and Ellianna. Since joining the Choice One fellowship in 2008, Brian has become one of the project managers in the Loveland office, where he spends most of his time figuring out how to bridge the gap between two embankments, creating designs that make sewage flow uphill, or stocking the canteen with "nutritious" snacks. Outside the 7-5 work day, he likes to do “city farming” (i.e. outside yard work), donate blood, and play with his kids.
Brittany lives in Jackson Center, Ohio with her husband, Mark and two children, son Hudson and daughter Logyn. Originally from Anna, Ohio, Brittany graduated from Wright State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication. In 2010 Brittany was hired as Choice One’s administrative assistant and has since taken roles in Marketing and Culture. You will still hear her familiar voice on the other end of the phone when you call in, though! In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and antique shopping. Her favorite part about working at Choice One is that she laughs every single day.
Caray began her role as Controller at Choice One in 2009. She makes sure all the dollars and cents add up, and, most importantly, makes sure paychecks get signed! When she’s not pestering everyone to submit their timesheets, Caray loves spending time outdoors, either getting vehicles stuck in the mud, gardening, or watching her children compete in sports. Caray and her husband, Rogell, reside in Minster, Ohio and have 5 kids,
Bryce, Isaac, Mara, Connor, and Kali.
Casey is a Project Manager here at Choice One. She’s been around since 2013, did 4 co-ops with us (which meant buying donuts 8 times), and started full-time in 2015 (which led to buying yet ANOTHER round of donuts). As Choice One’s first lady of engineering, Casey works mostly on making roadways better. When she isn’t nerding-it-up at work, Casey enjoys spending time with her husband, Brian and their family and friends, playing volleyball, and catching up on reality TV (which she refers to as POP CULTURE). She’s also pretty good at online shopping, just saying.
Chad Henry joined the Choice One team in 2019. In High School his dream was to be the Centerfielder for the Reds! Realizing that wasn’t meant to be, Chad attended Sinclair where he received a degree in Civil Engineering Technology; and then attended Miami University, majoring in Urban & Regional Planning and minoring in Government Economics.
Chad resides in Greenville with his wife, Lauren, and their 3 sons, Carson, Ethan, and Garrison. Not only does Chad enjoy watching his own boys play, he also runs an American Legion ball program to develop young men into future husbands, fathers and community leaders. Chad also enjoys volunteering for various non-profit organizations in the Darke County area including the United Way, Wayne Healthcare Foundation, and Special Olympics.
Chris Fluegeman is a land surveyor out of our Loveland location. He graduated from Finneytown High School in Cincinnati and received his Associate of Surveying from Cincinnati State.
In his free time Chris enjoys listening to and playing music. He also likes kayaking, genealogy, reading, photography, hiking, and riding anything with 2 wheels. He specializes in making people laugh.
Craig Eley is one of our traffic engineers here at Choice One. Craig feels that traffic engineering is the coolest because it involves roundabouts. Circles are cool, right?! (We haven’t told Craig the truth yet…) Before joining Choice One in 2015, Craig worked for over 25 years for the Ohio Department of Transportation, District 7. Prior to that, Craig served in the United States Navy for six years (thank you for your service, Craig!). Craig lives in Sidney, Ohio, with his wife Penny and son Ryan, and enjoys spending time with them and his daughter Brittany, son-in-law Gary, and grandchildren Miles and Hayley. He loves traveling and seeing how awesome America is, and enjoys camping and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Craig’s favorite holiday is his birthday because he claims the week around it, and he gets to go out to eat wherever he wants! (Craig is kidding—his favorite holiday is really Christmas, because it is about family and the celebration of the birth of Christ.)
Craig “Frizzle” Frilling joined Choice One Engineering in 2013 as a Field Surveyor, and has been delighting us and our clients with his helpfulness and sense of humor ever since. A resident of Fort Loramie, Ohio, Craig is always willing to lend a helping hand (or a good-natured joke), and never fails to pitch in when a job needs done. When he’s not out in the field collecting survey data for Choice One, you will probably find Craig attending a local basketball game, spending time at the fire house, working on the family farm, and enjoying time with family and friends. As for Craig’s favorite time of year… “There’s no season like deer season!”
Dane Sommer is a Project Engineer and Project Manager at Choice One. Dane joined the Choice One family in June of 2017 after working for both the Ohio Department of Transportation District 5 and a private consulting firm in Columbus, Ohio. Dane uses his previous work experience to design detailed roadway plans, bridge plans, roundabouts, or provide input into any ODOT-related design question that comes about. Outside of engineering, Dane spends the majority of his time attempting to keep up with his rapidly growing family of six, including his wife Heather, his son Isaiah, daughters Marilyn “MJ” and Tatum, and dog Phil (plus 9 nieces and nephews) and keeping a positive attitude on his beloved Cleveland sports. Dane also serves as the 8th grade basketball coach at Minster Middle School. Dane’s favorite holiday is Cleveland Browns opening day, and yes that is a holiday! It typically goes downhill quickly for the Browns after that initial game, unfortunately.
Dan Perreira has been a Field Surveyor with Choice One since 2012. In addition to having one of the most complicated names to spell (at least in our opinion), Dan hangs his hat (which likely has his sunglasses propped on top) on driving construction layout stakes, performing surveys, and working hard to make sure a job gets not just done, but done well. Originally completely from Piqua, Ohio, Dan has moved a few miles north, to between Piqua and Sidney. When he’s not out and about in one of Choice One’s survey trucks collecting data and keeping fellow surveyor Ryan Francis in line, Dan enjoys watching football, heading to the shooting range, and hanging out with friends.
Field survey operator Eric Kuck joined the Choice One team in 2011. You might catch Eric shooting elevations for a topographic survey or driving lath for construction layout on site. Eric hails from New Bremen, Ohio, with his wife Amanda, son Owen, and twin girls Eleanor and Olivia. Eric enjoys collecting and restoring antique tractors and plows (his passion is with International Harvester), and he puts those tractors and plows to good use participating in competition plowing with his brother and his grandpa, who is a two-time national champion. Eric is a proud member of the New Bremen Volunteer Fire Department, and his favorite holiday is his birthday… when his wife lets him do what he wants for a whole day!
Holly Fannon is our Accountant and Human Resources Administrator, tending to the needs of the employees in a caring and maternal fashion. Whether it’s bringing in food to share, reminding us to turn in our forms, monitoring timesheets, or policing the Visa bill, Holly will make sure we are in compliance with HR law and follow accounting procedures.
Apart from taking care of the employees, Holly has 5 children, Denise, Mitchell, Joel, Dean and Reece and one grandson, Adler. She and her husband, Jeff, love to take advantage of area events and enjoy spending time with their children. Holly also enjoys music and often plays the piano for her church.
When she first started at Choice One in 2001, she only worked one day and then called in the next day to state that she wouldn’t be coming in. Everyone thought they had scared her off after just one day. In truth, her first grandson was born that day; she can always remember how old her grandson is by how long she’s been at Choice One, and vice versa!
Jacqueline grew up in the Sidney area and attended Fairlawn High School. She attended OSU and graduated in June of 2007 with a degree in Landscape Architecure. Jacqueline and her husband, Scott, have 5 children: Grace, Addison, Andrew, Noel, and Hugh. Scott farms (grain) and runs an excavating company. When she's not busy running after her kids, she enjoys endlessly rearranging the plants in her garden and doing just about anything out-of-doors (except jogging) including: camping, traveling, farming and helping her husband perform surveys for his excavation work. Her family also enjoys taking ATV trips to the mountains of Kentucky and Tennessee. One of Jacqueline's favorite pastimes is photography, which she has done professionally.
Jacqui is a project engineer out of our Loveland location. She is from Liberty Township, Ohio, and attended Lakota East High School. She graduated this Spring from Ohio Northern with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Jacqui played lacrosse for ONU’s varsity team from 2016-2019, and was Captain in 2019. She enjoys hiking, boating, skiing, wakeboarding, and going to her family’s lakehouse. Jacqui had a new passion for yoga, enjoys learning new things and likes her coffee black. She is married to her high school sweet heart, Ryan.
Jake “The Cash Register” Bertke joined us as a Project Engineer at the end of 2016. Jake came to us as an experienced engineer from Montgomery County Environmental Services, and now works out of our Loveland office. He hails from Maria Stein and now lives in Centerville. As for the nickname? Jake coined the name himself during his 8th grade basketball season, as a reflection of the fact that you could bank on his 3-point jumpshot going in the hoop. Lucky for us, Jake’s defensive and rebounding skills are seriously lacking, and he was forced to pass up a life of NBA stardom to pursue his second true passion of water distribution and sanitary sewer design. In his free time, Jake enjoys listening to music, especially if it was recorded in the 90’s, and pretending to know how to play guitar. Jake is a big fan of University of Dayton basketball, Notre Dame football (we love him anyway), and chicken wings.
Jake Cordonnier joined our team as a Project Engineer in 2019. Jake attended THE Ohio State University where he received a bachelor degree in Civil Engineering. He continued to work in Columbus as a project manager for Ferguson Construction until he and his wife, Kenzie, made the move back to their home turf, Ft. Loramie, Ohio. Together they enjoy watching and attending Red's games, trying out new restaurants, and participating in local activities.
Jeff Puthoff is one of the founders of Choice One, and currently serves as a Project Manager. Through this role, Jeff lends his talents to the world of site development, local roadway design, storm water management, land/subdivision development, and rail design. If he’s not in the office, you can probably find Jeff on his farm, where he raises Holstein beef cattle and grows soybeans, corn, and wheat. Along with his wife, Becky, Jeff resides outside of Fort Loramie with his two favorite farmhands, their sons Justin and Jake. Jeff is notoriously the first person in the office every day, and if you call around 5:00am you will probably catch him while he puts the coffee on for the rest of us. If he were invisible for a day, Jeff would probably take in the workings of the nearest John Deere manufacturing facility, which marries the technology of engineering and farming into one giant geek amusement park.
Jeff Kunk joined Choice One in its founding year of 1994 as a Survey Crew Chief. While on the crew, Jeff notoriously took an inner-tube onto a frozen pond to get a survey shot that the designers didn’t end up needing! In 2011, Jeff headed indoors to become part of the site plan design team. Originally from Russia, Ohio, Jeff now lives in Houston, Ohio, where he realizes he has moved from one oddly-pronounced Ohio town to another (that’s ROO-she and HOW-stun in case you didn’t know). Jeff resides with his wife Nicole and their five children Ailia, Brandi, Wyatt, Iona, and Adairian. When he’s not forced to float on icy ponds, Jeff likes to camp, ride horses, farm, coach school sports teams, and just spend time with his family. If you ask Jeff what his favorite joke is, he’ll tell you, “What’s a pirate’s favorite letter? You’re going to think “Rrrrrr,” but it’s actually “C”!
Jeff “Shorty” North is one of our Field Surveyors, and has been with Choice One since 1995. A life-long resident of Sidney, Jeff enjoys spending time with his son Jacob, daughter-in-law Kiarra, and granddaughter Wrenleigh as well as fishing, shooting at the gun range, photography, and taking care of his much-loved pet cats. Jeff is also a Trustee at the Shelby County Deer Hunters Association. When he’s not busy baiting hooks or cleaning litter boxes you will most likely find him watching The Walking Dead or Animal Planet.
Jim is a field survey operator in our Loveland location. He is originally from Cincinnati and after graduating from St. Xavier High School, he attended Claremont Mckenna College in Claremont, California where he played lacrosse and swam. Jim is an avid reader and likes to play video games when he can find time between his two children, Isla and Finn. In true Choice One fashion, when asked what his favorite food is, Jim states: “I do not have a favorite food, I eat it all.”
Jonathan Murphy joined Choice One as a project engineer in 2019. Jonathan is from Versailles and attended Versailles High School. He graduated from the University of Toledo in 2015 with a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering. As an undergrad Jonathan played baseball for Defiance. In his free time he continues to play for a traveling softball league. Jonathan also enjoys working on small construction projects. Jonathan is super -focussed, which keeps him out of trouble, so we don't have any dirt on him...yet. Stay tuned!
Kaye Borchers is Choice One’s funding specialist and resident grammar police. As an English major among engineers and surveyors, Kaye puts the commas where they’re supposed to go and removes the apostrophes from where they’re not. (Just don’t ask her to do math.) If you catch her outside of work, you’ll probably find Kaye enjoying some time with her husband Neil and their horses, dogs, and donkey at their place outside of Fort Loramie. When they’re not cleaning stalls or mowing grass, Kaye and Neil like to travel the world, attend concerts, run long distances, and cheer on the Cincinnati Reds. Since she arrived at Choice One in 2005, Kaye has provided her coworkers endless amusement being generally goofy and awkward, and once tripped and fell over a rail line in front of hundreds of people at a ribbon cutting. If she were invisible for the day, Kaye would probably sneak onto a flight headed to the Caribbean to spend the day relaxing by an expansive pool with a fruity drink.
Kole began his journey with Choice One as a Survey Co-Op and has recently been hired as a part-time field surveyor while he finishes his Civil Engineering Tech degree at Sinclair Community College. Kole hails from Fort Loramie, OH where he enjoys hanging with his friends, and driving his Chevy truck. Kole also enjoys working with his grandpa in his carpentry and remodeling business as well as the farm.
Kristi Moorman joined the Choice One team in our Loveland location after several co-ops. She graduated from UD with her degree in Civil Engineering in 2019. Kristi grew up in Maria Stein and went to Marion Local Schools. Kristi enjoys spending time with her friends and family, as well as playing/watching sports and traveling. She is also passionate about the charity that she co-founded, called Love Crosses Borders.
Kyle Siegrist is one of our many fabulous designers here at Choice One. He began at Choice One in May of 2017 and enjoys learning new ways to ensure our clients have the best experience with Choice One. Kyle is in charge of smoke testing for I&I issues, and is involved in the art of subdivision design. Kyle also enjoys a variety of activities outside of the office including wood burning and movie watching, doing anything outside, and spending time with family and friends. Kyle also spends a portion of his time as his Australian alter-ego Crocodile Kyle, when the time is right. Kyle is always looking for new jokes to laugh at and doesn’t mind sharing a few, except the paper joke… he thinks it’s tear-able…
Lexy is a designer and Choice One’s resident CAD nerd. She started at Choice One in 2014 as a co-op, and decided to stick around and became a full-time designer in 2016. Lexy grew up in Sidney and now resides in Maplewood. When she is not designing roads or enhancing our CAD efficiency, she enjoys hunting, kayaking, mushroom hunting, and horseback riding. Lexy tells us that her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving. Like many Choice Oners, she loves to eat. But she also loves Thanksgiving because of the chance to take a minute to give thanks for the opportunities that the year had provided all while amongst family and friends.
Luke Hemmelgarn joined the Choice One team at the end of 2017. Luke is from North Star, and attended Versailles, HS. He graduated from OSU in 2013 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Luke enjoys OSU Football and the Browns, and likes hunting, golfing, and fishing. He likes to do just about anything to get out of the house, whether it be a date night, or playing board games with family and friends. Luke is married to Katelyn, and currently resides in Ft. Loramie with their daughters, Carly and Harper.
Matt Hoying, is our President and a Project Manager. He has been hanging around longer than most of us, since 2004, however he is quick to point out he is still under the average age of us Choice One-rs. Matt uses his experience designing and managing transportation and site development projects as a way to help make your life better throughout the life of the project. And when he can’t help you with that, he will be more than happy to lend an ear when you want to talk about baseball, fishing, or you have family advice he can use with his wife Amanda, daughters Cora and Molly, or son Ethan. And for their sake, any advice you have would be appreciated so they can stop listening to some of his REALLY funny jokes like “What’s Forrest Gump’s password? 1forrest1”.
Matt Lefeld is a Project Surveyor in our Sidney office. Matt is from St. Henry, OH, and graduated from Sinclair with a degree in Civil Engineering & Construction Management in 1999. Matt comes to us from the Village of New Bremen, where he served as Utility Operations Manager.
Matt and his wife, Patty, keep busy with their three kids, Darby, Quinn and Tate, who are middle and high school aged. They are on a summer swim team, which Patty coaches, and are also active in Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Patty is a high school English teacher at Fort Recovery.
Matt currently serves as the Fire Chief for the St. Henry Volunteer Fire Department. He is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, and a member of Mercer County’s Pheasants Forever organization. He enjoys hunting and fishing, and he travels to Colorado each year to hunt elk. He likes just about anything outdoors.
Max has joined the Choice One team as a part time Field Surveyor. He attended Clinton-Massie High School where he played football, baseball and lacrosse. Currently Max is working on his Civil Engineering Technology degree at Sinclair. Max enjoys working out, hiking, watching comedy or action movies, listening to rock (alternative, classic, hard), rap, and some country, taking vacations (especially to the mountains), and spending time with family & friends. Max has a dog named Lilly.
Our Administrative Assistant Megan “Meg” “The Hugger” “Nut-Meg” Bornhorst has been known to sneak around the office offering hugs to all – willing and unwilling since she started in 2012. Her bright smile and even brighter personality are hard to miss. She helps to make Choice One the vibrant place that it is, especially during her impromptu dance parties and her celebration of talk like a pirate day. When she’s not dancing or hugging, Megan is busy helping our clients bid projects, understand pay applications and change orders, and navigate Ohio Public Works funding and projects.
In her free time, Megan enjoys hanging out with her family – Husband Andy, and daughters Drew and Ryann. She also enjoys playing softball during the summertime, going to the park with her daughters, and finishing that pesky last bite of food from every carry-in dish because everyone else is simply too shy to eat it (that’s engineers for you). Most of all, Megan loves to organize. Bless her heart for cleaning up our Z drive and helping us to go paperless. As the saying goes, the best kind of freak to be is a Clean Freak.
Michael, or Kunzi as we like to call him (who hired another Michael?), is one of our project engineers. He typically works on stormwater and site plan projects. Kunzi graduated from UC with a degree in Civil Engineering. Prior to that he attended Cincinnati State where he studied Surveying.
Kunzi enjoys working out, reading, traveling and making his co-workers laugh by poking fun at them, mostly about whatever small town they happened to be born in. He spends most of his time fixing up his house now--you know, adulting.
Since his 2010 co-op with Choice One, Michael Seeger has been providing Choice One with site plan and private site development. Originally from Sidney, Ohio, Michael now lives in West Chester, Ohio, with his wife Andrea, son Carter, and daughter Madison. When he’s not working out parking lot design and storm water retention on a site plan, Michael is likely outside hunting, four-wheeling, or camping. His most memorable moment at Choice One came when he was helping to hang a TV on the wall in the office and split his pants (thankfully he still lived just a few minutes from the office at that point—for all of our benefits!).
Michael Goettemoeller (“Mike G.” for short) is a Project Manager with Choice One. He came over to the Green Team in 2013 with experience in traffic engineering. Mike uses his love for MS Excel and his engineering experience to efficiently knock out any type of traffic study (including safety studies, corridor studies, traffic impact studies, and interchange operation studies). Each year, he patiently waits for his favorite holiday, Thanksgiving, which is a compilation of his favorite hobbies. These hobbies include spending time with family, playing cards, eating food, drinking beer, and watching football. In addition, he enjoys traveling with his wife Megan, attending concerts, biking/hiking, and playing golf.
Mitch Thobe is our Chief Production Office and a Project Manager. He has been at Choice One since 2010. Mitch helps design and manage transportation and traffic projects for several municipalities. He and his wife, Kate, stay very busy keeping up with their three energetic boys, Wes, Drew, and Austin. When not working, sleeping, or spending time with his family, Mitch enjoys volunteering his time on local community-improvement committees, staying active via golf, bowling, softball and running, and collecting micro-brew beer bottles (after he drinks them of course). Mitch’s claim to fame is that he was once highlighted in a video clip as “the angry Browns fan” on ESPN’s TV show Pardon the Interruption and Around the Horn several times.
Since 2005, Nick Sanders has been one of our professional engineers whose forte is designing site plans, railroads, and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (he is a Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control, after all). He is also knowledgeable with site plan LEED requirements, bio-retention ponds, bio-swales etc., for those seeking to “go green.” Nick graduated from ONU and continues the ONU Polar Bear tradition, and rarely wears a coat in the dead of winter.
Nick loves spending time with his wife, Courtney, 8 children and grandchildren. In fact, his grandchildren think of him as their own personal “jungle gym,” and his children often remark how he really comes to see his grandkids and that they, his children, are just a fringe benefit. Nick is also is very devoted to his church and loves serving and volunteering in its various organizations, and visiting and helping others. He is a fan of most sports (watching more than playing) with his favorite team being THE Ohio State Buckeyes.
Nick Selhorst (sometimes pronounced “Seahorse”) works in the Loveland office, but is originally from the large metropolis of Versailles, Ohio. Nick has been with Choice One since 2012 after leaving ODOT District 10 to join the “dark side” of the consulting world, and moved to the Loveland office in summer of 2013. Nick does Business Development and is a project manager. He specializes in roadway and land development projects, but is always willing to tackle any challenge.
Nick enjoys reading books (actual paper books!), golfing, gardening, and rooting for the Buckeyes, Reds, and Browns (don’t ask why on that last one). Nick resides with his wife Brittany, and son Micah. They haven’t decided yet whether to curse him with a lifetime of Browns or Bengals-fandom. Suggestions are welcome.
Rob joined our Survey crew in the fall of 2017. Rob attended West Carrolton High School and currently lives in Kettering with his wife, Leslie and daughter, Eleanor. Rob follows the Bengals and the Reds, and he enjoys fishing, hiking and reading. He also likes attending trivia nights at Star City Brewery in Miamisburg.
Rodney Jackson is the newest Choice One designer based out of our Loveland office. He holds an Associates Degree in Architectural Engineering Technology from Cincinnati State. In his free time Rodney enjoys to golf, coach his daughter's soccer team and cooking. Stay tuned for more dirt.
Ryan Bruns is a project engineer in our Sidney office. He hails from Chickasaw, Ohio, and attended college at Ohio Northern University where he received his degree in Civil Engineering. Ryan also played basketball at Ohio Northern and went on to play professional basketball in Spain. After his time abroad, he traded in his basketball jersey for a green shirt in 2020--because who could resist being a Choice One Engineer?!
Ryan Francis has been a part of the Choice One Family since 2001. Working as a field survey operator, Ryan’s “get it done” attitude contributes to the productivity of the company. For several years, Ryan has worked out in the field staking and surveying assigned projects, but most importantly getting the work trucks stuck in the mud. Now, much of Ryan’s time is spent making sure the field surveyors have what they need to get the job done. On the few occasions that Ryan is back out in the field, the other surveyors wait to see “who drew the short straw” and has to work with Ryan that day.
When Ryan isn’t at work, his wife Tabitha is trying her best to tolerate him. Ryan and Tabitha have three children: Allison, Lane, and Callum. Ryan and his family, along with his in-laws, own and show Jersey dairy cows at numerous state and national shows. As many of you who know Ryan could probably guess, what holiday is Ryan’s favorite? “Thanksgiving! Because the best food is served on Thanksgiving and there is plenty of it!”
FYI: If you ever eat at a restaurant with Ryan and don’t know what to get, just wait till he orders and get the same thing. Ryan says, the fat guy always knows the best thing on the menu!
Ryan Lefeld is a Project Manager at our Sidney location. Since joining Choice One in 2011, Ryan has specialized in utilities (water and sanitary) and storm water. Ryan resides in St. Henry, Ohio, with his wife Diana and their daughters Adalynn and Finley, son Miles, and dog Ellie. Ryan’s hobbies involve his favorite football teams: watching the St. Henry Redskins win on Friday night, the Buckeyes win on Saturday, and the Cleveland Browns bring him back down to reality on Sunday. He also enjoys playing cards, target shooting, spending time with family and friends, and the outdoors. He has been known to impersonate the Wolverine from the Marvel superhero movies. If a movie would be made about his life, Ryan would expect his role to be played by Hugh Jackman, for Wolverine reasons, of course.
Samantha (Sammy) Kuck is our talented Graphic Designer. Sammy is from New Bremen. She graduated from Tri-Star Career Center in 2018 and The Modern College of Design in 2020. Sammy enjoys dancing and was recently given the opportunity to teach younger dancers at the New Bremen Dance Studio.
In her spare time, she also enjoys following the Browns and the Reds, running (or walking) in local 5k’s, listening to music, playing games, digital painting on her iPad and just hanging out with friends and family.
Troy joined Choice One in June of 2017 after graduating from The Ohio State University in Civil Engineering. He resides in West Chester with his wife, Stephanie. When he’s not busy accidentally responding to questions about the City of “Troy,” he spends most of his time here designing site plans. In his spare time, Troy enjoys golfing and following Ohio State football. Ask Troy his favorite joke, and he’ll tell you: “Two geese walk into a bar, the third one ducks.” Terrible. His favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, obviously because of the food, but also because he gets to watch his Detroit Lions be mediocre at football every year.
Tyler Thobe began at Choice One in 2014, and works with storm water, including storm sewer sizing, detention/retention design, flood modeling, storm studies, and the like. He recently was designated a CPESC, and works on Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and water quality design. "Ty" grew up in Maria Stein, Ohio and moved down the road to Chickasaw where he lives with his wife, Brittany, daughter Mia, and their dog Nala (yes, named after the love interest in The Lion King). He enjoys watching sports like football, basketball, and baseball. He also enjoys playing basketball, beer league softball and golfing, and just enjoys being outside. It’s no surprise, then, that Ty’s favorite holiday is Memorial Day, as it signals the start of summer.
Wes is a Professional Surveyor and Project Manager. With his experience with property lines, right-of-way lines, and easements, Wes has a hand in most projects that come through Choice One. (Or maybe that’s because he has been around since 1997.) With wife Jayme and three daughters Reese, Kori, and Callie at home, he understands busy schedules, American Girl Dolls, deadlines, and especially what it takes to keep a project a moving. Wes thinks the best holiday is Thanksgiving--unlimited turkey, football on TV, and no gift buying… although maybe that no gift buying part has something to do with having three daughters.
Wes Wolters is a Project Manager in our Loveland Choice One office. Originally from Anna, he and his wife Hannah currently reside in the Cincinnati area. Wes joined the Choice One crew in the fall of 2016 after graduating with his Bachelor’s in engineering from THE Ohio State University. He works on road reconstructions and storm sewer system designs and loves to watch and play sports. His favorite teams include the Reds, Bengals and, of course, Ohio State. Wes’s favorite holiday is Fort Loramie, Ohio’s Country Concert weekend. He knows it’s not an official holiday, but dreams of the day it will become one, at which time he will do the worm in celebration. Yes, he can do the worm!
Zach enjoys spending time with his wife Julie and son Matthew. When he’s not rooting on the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, or his beloved UD Flyers, you might find him on the golf course or checking out a new brewery. In recent years, his love for classic rock, country music, or any music, really, has inspired him to teach himself guitar. Zach is originally from Russia, Ohio, and brings experience in site and utility design.
