Water Distribution

We can help get water where it needs to go. Uphill? Sure! Under a river? Why not! We understand the needs of systems large and small, and work with our clients to install and/or improve not just an effective, efficient distribution system, but a new or improved system that can be maintained, added to, and altered to the full extent of its useful life.

We provide water distribution design for private and public clients as follows:

Paths_Evaluation

Feasibility Study:

  • Analyze the existing conditions for water system affordability, including onsite investigations, general layout, pipe sizing, and cost estimates for new water distribution systems and systems needing maintenance, more capacity, or upgrades.
Paths_IDEM

Distribution System Design:

  • Design of replacement and entire new distribution facilities (including entire new systems).
  • Provide guidance and calculations concerning pipe sizing, valve placement, fire hydrant locations, etc., for utility extensions.
WaterDist_WaterMeterReplace

Water Meter Replacement:

  • Aid in meter system selection and specifications by evaluation of manufacturers’ specifications in conjunction with the clients’ needs.

Small System Modifications:

  • Prepare Ohio EPA applications and technical drawings for small water treatment system component additions, including flow monitoring, clarification, disinfection, etc.
LandDev_LandPlanning

Basemapping:

  • Collect information regarding location and elevation of valves, fire hydrants, meters, and other system components to then prepare base maps of the system for reference use.
Sanitary_ConstructionStandardsandDrawings-01

Standard Construction Drawings:

  • Create and/or update standard water distribution system technical drawings and design criteria for reference and consistency.
PipeSystem

Distribution System Modeling:

  • Collect asset information (field work or GIS).
  • Calibrate model using existing fire hydrant flows, existing main static and residual pressures and corresponding water tower elevations.
  • Model the water distribution system model using Water Cad software.
  • Identify/analyze existing and future water distribution system capacity availability/limitations.
  • Provide a detailed report presenting the results and improvement recommendations.
  • Provide budgetary costs for future project planning.

Lead Line Mapping:

  • Prepare basemap of lead lines per Ohio EPA requirements.

“Last Friday afternoon I requested some information from [Choice One] regarding waterline project specs for the Village of Bluffton. He responded immediately and sent more than was expected. His email response below is indicative of my experiences with the staff members I’ve had the chance to work with. I feel fortunate to work with Choice One whenever the opportunity presents itself. Thank you for assembling a great team and wishes for continued success.”

New 30” Raw Water Transmission Main

Sidney, Ohio

Choice One Engineering designed the installation of a 30” diameter raw water main from a proposed well field off of Lehman Road in Washington Township to the City of Sidney Water Treatment Plant. The project involved approximately 44,000 feet of 30” water main from a re-pump station to the WTP, and included a jack and bore under I-75 and directional bores under the Great Miami River and Big Four Railroad Bridge. Subconsultant CH2M Hill performed system curves and hydraulics.
