The Project:
The City of Sidney set out to close a major gap in its trail network with a new multi‑use path along the Great Miami River. The project added 4,000 feet of asphalt trail to create a long‑awaited connection between Kuther Road and the existing trail east of the I‑75 bridge, improving recreation and emergency access along the corridor.
The Challenge:
To complete the connection, the trail needed to pass beneath the I-75 bridge and follow the river’s edge, bringing floodplain requirements, bridge constraints, and multiple agency approvals into play. The project also had to fit within ODOT right-of-way requirements while meeting environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
How We Helped:
Choice One Engineering partnered with the City of Sidney, ODOT District 7, and regulatory agencies to guide the project from planning through permitting. Along with designing the trail, completing floodplain modeling, and coordinating environmental and structural considerations, our team helped position the project for funding by preparing more than 100 pages of exhibits, narratives, cost information, and supporting documentation for an ODNR grant application.
The Result:
Sidney gained a safe, resilient trail connection that enhances recreation and brings the community closer together.
