The Project:
The Village of Camden identified a signalized intersection at US 127 and SR 725 as one of its most pressing safety concerns. With a well-documented history of serious crashes, they knew the intersection demanded more than routine maintenance. The Village joined forces with Choice One Engineering to evaluate conditions and help chart a path forward.
The Challenge:
The numbers told a troubling story. Over a five-year period, 25 crashes occurred that resulted in an injury. Limited signal visibility, higher approach speeds, and nearby driveways all contributed to safety concerns.
How We Helped:
Choice One Engineering conducted a safety study to identify the factors contributing to crashes and developed targeted recommendations. Improvements included new left-turn lanes on US 127, mast-arm traffic signals, and access-management improvements. Choice One also helped the Village secure more than $1.6 million in HSIP funding to bring the project to construction.
The Result:
Camden now has an intersection designed with safety in mind. The improvements addressed the root causes of past crashes and enhanced conditions for everyone passing through.
