The Project:
The Village of Minster knew they needed a change after experiencing several floods in the northwest section of the community. Determined to improve conditions, they set out to investigate options and find a lasting solution that would keep their residents dry and safe.

The Challenge:
The existing drainage system, known as Dues Ditch, ran from Line Drive and Seventh Street to an open ditch behind Nidec Minster. Having reached the end of its useful life, it was no longer large enough to handle stormwater flows, leaving parts of the community vulnerable on rainy days.
How We Helped:
After evaluating the drainage system through hydraulic analysis and modeling, Choice One Engineering developed a solution to better manage stormwater throughout the area. The design included new storm sewer infrastructure, an overflow swale, and a detention basin to capture and control runoff before it entered the existing drainage system. Choice One also helped the Village secure OPWC funding to move the project into construction.
The Result:
The Village of Minster was able to move forward with a fully funded reconstruction of the Dues Ditch drainage system, giving the community a more reliable drainage system and reduced flooding in the area.
