The Project:
When the City of Riverside and Montgomery County Environmental Services set out to replace aging water mains across 15 residential streets in the community, they knew it wasn’t going to be simple. The goal, however, was: create a more reliable, resilient water system residents could depend on.
The Challenge:
The City needed to replace a total of 19,800 feet of water main while navigating dense underground utility networks and tight right-of-way constraints throughout the project area.
How We Helped:
Choice One Engineering developed a design that minimized impacts to residents while maintaining reliable water service during construction. Where conventional installation methods were not practical, the team used horizontal directional drilling to navigate creek crossings and constrained areas. Careful planning and communication also helped maintain access to the local middle school, keep utility service uninterrupted for residents, and keep traffic flowing on Spinning Road throughout construction.
The Result:
The project was constructed across three phases from 2022 to 2024, delivering an upgraded water system for the City that improved system reliability and set the community up for long-term service they can count on.
