The Project:
After more than 60 years carrying traffic over the East Branch of Lost Creek, the Peterson Road Bridge was beginning to show its age. Corrosion had deteriorated portions of the steel superstructure, while sections of the concrete support system were starting to break apart. Although previous modifications had helped extend the bridge’s service life, Miami County recognized it was time for a full replacement.

The Challenge:
Years of maintenance and previous modifications had kept traffic moving across Peterson Road Bridge, but they were now only delaying the inevitable. Miami County needed a complete replacement that addressed the bridge’s underlying deterioration while improving the crossing itself. The new bridge needed to be wider, eliminate the center pier support within the creek, and still fit within the existing corridor.
How We Helped:
Rather than replacing the existing two-span structure, Choice One designed a new single-span bridge that eliminated pier supports, helping water move beneath the bridge more freely and reducing future maintenance concerns. The design also widened the bridge from 24 feet to 28 feet while fitting within the existing roadway corridor.
The Result:
Miami County now has a safer, more dependable crossing that is built to support both travelers and the creek well into the future.
