Roundabouts

State Route 125 and Woodlands Drive Roundabout
PIERCE TOWNSHIP, CLERMONT COUNTY, OHIO

This project involved the addition of turn lanes to S.R. 125 and a new mast arm traffic signal. The project also involved the installation of a new roadway with a roundabout. One leg continued on to a new healthcare facility and the other two legs were stubbed out for future development of the 50 acres opened up by the new roadway. The project includes the extension of public utilities (sewer, water, gas, electric, etc.), sidewalks, and highway lighting. The project, which was installed in coordination with the Clermont County Transportation Improvement District (TID), was designed in 2018 with construction in 2019. COEC provided the topographic survey, roadway, roundabout, signal, and lighting design; the Clermont County TID preformed bidding and inspection.

S.R. 103 at Navajo Drive Intersection Improvement
VILLAGE OF BLUFFTON, OHIO

This project involved the design of a 125-foot inscribed diameter, single lane roundabout at the entrance to GROB Systems and Bluffton Airport. GROB Systems is in the process of large expansion projects that is to add over 200 jobs in the next 10 years. Current and future traffic projections do not warrant a signal at the intersection. However, GROB employees are experiencing delay at daily shift ends. The improvement of the intersection with a roundabout decreases delay and spurs future growth on the east side of Bluffton. GROB Systems also requires oversized truck loads for operations. The roundabout has been sized for 80’ low-boy trailers to circumnavigate the roundabout and has provided flattened truck aprons to allow oversized haulers to by-pass the roundabout.

Valley Bell Connector – Phase 1
BEAVERCREEK TOWNSHIP, OHIO

This project involved the design of a 136-foot inscribed diameter, single lane roundabout at the entrance to the Greene County Airport. The purpose and need of the project was to plan for accommodating future traffic growth with the installation of a nearby interchange along US35 in Green County. The single lane roundabout 4th leg was to be stubbed out for future by-pass connection between township arterials to alleviate congestion and provide alternative connection to US35 interchange. Furthermore, the roundabout contained additional modeling and grading work to allow for the future expansion of by-pass drop lanes to allow for heavier traffic volumes.
