Want to blaze a new trail (or reconstruct an old one)? We can help. Routes that accommodate multi-modal transportation—motorized vehicles, bicycles, public transportation/transit, and pedestrians—are a focus of many communities and their respective DOTs. With our experience with ODOT, INDOT, AASHTO and ADA standards and guidelines for multi-use paths, bicycle facilities, and pedestrian facilities, we can help you develop a path that fits the needs of the community and integrates well with the existing system.

We provide multi-use paths and trail design services for private and public clients as follows:
New Path/Trail:
- Trail/Path design across undeveloped areas; examples include along roadways, through new and existing subdivisions/developments, in/between parks, abandoned railroad beds, and within rights-of-way or easements designated for open space.
- Trail/path extensions across undeveloped areas as listed above.
Pavement Evaluation:
- Thorough evaluation of asphalt/concrete pavements, sidewalks, etc., along a route or in a park area and compilation in a database to help determine highest-priority.
- Repair/replacement locations, coupled with the specific goals of the jurisdiction and available funding.
Drainage and Storm Water Facilities:
- Design focused on new, reconstruction, relocation and/or improvement of storm water facilities located along a trail/path to improve drainage and safety.
Access/Crossing Upgrades:
- Design focused on upgrading existing trails/paths with intersections at roadways to improve vehicular and pedestrian safety and efficiency.
Maintenance of Traffic:
- Determination of the ideal detour/closure process for a path/trail improvement project, including cost comparisons of detours versus closures, detailed MOT plans, detour route determination, and optimal construction conditions for safety and efficiency.
Construction Administration/Observation:
- On-site personnel focused on observing construction methods and installation.
- Administration of payment applications, disbursements, change orders, and punch lists.
- Interpretation of plans for contractor and/or client during construction.
Path/Trail Reconstruction:
- Trail/Path improvement, repaving, or reconstruction.

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Park District
Hole’s Creek Multi-Use Path
Washington Township, Montgomery County, Ohio
Choice One Engineering helped the Centerville-Washington Park District (CWPD) develop this new 10 foot wide multi-use trail along Hole’s Creek in Washington Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. This 1.10 mile trail includes three bridges across Hole’s Creek. The development of this project required route alternative analyses, hydraulic modeling and floodplain permits, and grant writing ($500,000 from ODNR). Choice One further assisted CWPD in coordinating public meetings and feedback, a geotechnical exploration, and environmental and archeological reports. Today this project provides a key link to the trail system of CWPD and surrounding communities.
