Civil Engineer - Transportation
Responsibilities
Lead plan production efforts for transportation projects for local municipalities and ODOT using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Interact with our clients; local municipalities, ODOT, contractors, and other consulting companies.
Develop project budgets/schedules.
Develop technical proposals.
Prepare quantities and construction cost estimates for bidding.
Work closely with other technical staff within Choice One Engineering and with peers in the industry to provide transportation design and consulting engineering services, primarily for local municipalities and ODOT.

P.E. license or in the process of obtaining P.E. license

What You’ll Do
- Assist in plan production for projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D.

Key Responsibilities:

Civil Engineer - Bridge Design
Key Responsibilities:
Choice One Engineering is a Level 1 classified firm that focuses on smaller, local bridge projects that make an everyday difference in the community. The following are types of bridges our Bridge Design Engineers design:
- Prestressed Box Beam Bridges on capped pile substructures
- Single span concrete slab bridges on capped pile substructures
- Continuous slab bridges on capped pile substructures
- Concrete deck overlay projects
- Minor rehabilitation work involving concrete patching, deck joint rehabilitation, parapet safety regrading, or other structural repairs not requiring design computations
A Bridge Design Engineer is also responsible for the planning and design of bikeway/pedestrian bridges, low flow stream crossings, and drainage conduits (culvert pipes and three-sided/four-sided box culverts).
Additional responsibilities include conducting bridge hydraulic and scour analysis, structure type studies, FEMA floodplain analysis and permitting, Army Corps of Engineers permitting, utility coordination, and reviewing contractor material submittals.
This person will work closely with other technical staff at Choice One Engineering to assist in providing consulting engineering services to private clients, architects, national retailers, municipalities, universities, and local development clients. Interact daily with project teams in a multi-disciplinary and multi-office environment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Must have an EIT certification and be in the process of obtaining or already possess a P.E. license.
- Candidates should have 0-5 year(s) experience in bridge design.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Bridge Design Manual, Location and Design (L&D) Manual, Construction and Material Specifications, and Standard Construction Drawings is a benefit, but not required.
- Must possess traits of a very responsive person with a strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines.
- Candidates should possess a continuous learning mindset.
- Must have the ability to interact with the public, clients, and reviewing agencies in a courteous manner.
- Working proficiency of AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred.

Can I work from home?
Choice One employees have flexibility to work from home when needed, however, all of our employees are regularly onsite. We believe being together in person enhances the culture that we worked to create and that we love.
What does a co-op experience look like at Choice One?
Our co-ops get a chance to learn both surveying and design in their time here. We do our best to give our co-ops real-world civil engineering experience and get them involved in project design, field walks, attending bid openings, etc. Apply early! These spots fill up quickly!
What training and development opportunities are available?
Choice One offers tuition reimbursement as well as personal development and leadership classes. We offer company paid conferences, seminars, and training as well as having a certified life coach onsite twice per month for our employees. We have an assigned mentor and developer for each employee who helps them determine their goals, career path and keeps them accountable for their development plan.
What would my career path look like?
